I’m no stranger to picnics-as you can see here– where my husband surprised me with an impromptu backyard picnic-and even when I’m on vacation I always pack a little snack for the trip (case in point, these little peanut butter sandwiches we brought for hiking). All in all one delicious and healthy pasta salad! If you cant find frozen artichoke hearts, sub in drained canned artichoke hearts. To make it even healthier, I love using Veggie pasta or whole wheat pasta. Puttanesca, traditionally made with tomatoes, olives, capers, anchovies and garlic, gets a makeover with shrimp for extra protein and artichoke hearts to boost the vegetable servings (and the fiber). Next, you’ll chop all the veggies (green pepper, green onion and spinach) and then as soon as the pasta is done boiling, you’ll strain it and run it under cold water, then mix everything together. To make the pasta salad you’ll start by boiling your noodles, and while your noodles are cooking, you’ll chop up fresh herbs (I used Basic, Thyme, Oregano and Rosemary) and then mix that into the dressing which is made of Stonyfield Smooth and Creamy Fat Free Plan Yogurt, lemon juice and a little olive oil. I like to put pasta salads in jars for easy transport. The whole dish takes 20 minutes to make (that includes chopping the herbs and veggies) and travels really well. This Creamy Italian Herb Pasta Salad is made with Stonyfield plain yogurt and fresh Italian herbs and is the perfect on-the-go dish that can be brought along for a picnic. When the oil begins to shimmer, add three-quarters of the garlic and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Ingredients 1 pound uncooked penne rigate 4 teaspoons extravirgin olive oil, divided cup chopped fresh basil teaspoon chopped fresh oregano teaspoon salt teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 2 pints fresh cherry tomatoes 1 garlic clove, minced 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives teaspoon. In today’s’ post, I’m going to show you how to do both! Two things I absolutely love about summertime: using fresh herbs in dishes, and having little picnics.

You could binge a bunch of fun Christmas picture books. Is there a series you want to read together? You could read a chapter book like The Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens together as a family. But I do think it is okay to do every once in a while.īooks: The holiday break is a great time to binge some books. It does leave a lot of screen time in one day, and if you know me, you know I don’t love that. They also have many fond memories from years past. This is literally something we only do once a year, and our children really look forward to it. We like to break out the old school video games that my husband and I played as a child as well as play modern games. Video Games: Over Christmas break, we always take a day to play video games as a family. You could do an epic game of Risk over several days. You could play a different game each night of the holiday break. You could do all of these things and do one aspect each day, or you could take binging to it’s fullest and binge one thing all in one day.īoard Games: Our family loves to play games together. Here are some things you could binge as a family. How often do we have time to binge something? This is a great idea for days when you have cold temperatures outside. This is part of what makes it a potentially difficult time, but it also gives you a lot of opportunity to do something fun. Binge Something FunĬhristmas break means you have time on your side. Here are some ideas to fill the time this holiday season however you see fit. You can make it very relaxed or you can fill the time with a lot of activities, or somewhere in between. You can really take your Christmas break in a lot of directions. Pretty basic stuff, and nothing that will make you put on your challenge-defeating socks to accomplish. Usually this is something simple like "collect three gems", "rescue two survivors", or "build three houses and earn lots and lots of gold". Managing these three simple resources is where the game's challenge comes from, and you can't rely on random resource drops to fuel your mighty team of rescue workers!Įach level in Rescue Team has a set of goals you must meet in order to pass. Each task costs a certain amount of gold, wood, and food to accomplish. However, you can just send workers out to do their thing whenever you please. In order to get to the houses, sawmills and cafes that need repairs, you must clear the streets so you can pass. Each map is filled with a nest of roadways that are blocked by piles of wood, debris, or broken roadways/bridges. Rescue Team is all about telling workers what to do, and there's plenty for your small crew to accomplish on each level. A time management sim in the vein of My Kingdom for the Princess II and Roads of Rome II, Alawar Game's Rescue Team aims to take its own slice of the road repairing, house rebuilding pie, one level at a time! Continued abuse of our services will cause your IP address to be blocked indefinitely. When tornadoes strike Greefield Island, who you gonna call? The rescue team, of course! Clad in the finest orange overalls and wearing the highest-tech helmets available, the handy crew sails in, hammers at the ready, willing and able to clean up the debris covering the island and repair each and every building along the way. The lion's share of dumped nuclear waste came from Britain and the Soviet Union, figures from the IAEA show. Several nuclear submarines, including nuclear ammunition, were also sunk during this time. Until the early 1990s, it was also a gigantic dump for radioactive waste from nuclear power plants.įrom 1946 to 1993, more than 200,000 tons of waste, some of it highly radioactive, was dumped in the world's oceans, mainly in metal drums, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Most of them (193) were conducted by France in French Polynesia, and by the US (42), primarily in the Marshall Islands and the Central Pacific.īut the ocean wasn't just being used as a training ground for nuclear war. Over the next few decades, more than 250 further nuclear weapons tests were carried out on the high seas. In 1946, the US became the first country to test an atomic bomb in a marine area, in the Pacific Bikini Atoll. Radioactive pollution in the ocean has been increasing globally - and not just since the disaster at Fukushima. Although this risk is extremely small, it is still a risk."Īnd that risk is growing. The research found that "even the smallest possible dose, a photon passing through a cell nucleus, carries a cancer risk. "A single becquerel that gets into our body is enough to damage a cell that will eventually become a cancer cell," he says.Ī study from the European Parliament reached a similar conclusion. People observing a minute of silence for the victims of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami Image: APīut that doesn't mean there's no risk, says Horst Hamm of the Nuclear Free Future Foundation. Read more - What happens to nuclear waste from power plants? The contaminated water in these storage tanks at Fukushima could be released into the sea as of 2022 Image: Reuters/T. They've even been measured in very small quantities off the US west coast in concentrations "well below the harmful levels set by the World Health Organization," according to Vincent Rossi, an oceanographer at France's Mediterranean Institute of Oceanography (MIO). And still today, radioactive substances can be detected off the coast of Japan and in other parts of the Pacific. Radiation levels in the sea off Fukushima were millions of times higher than the government's limit of 100 becquerels. At the time, radioactive water flowed "directly into the sea, in quantities we have never seen before in the marine world," Sabine Charmasson from the French Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN) tells DW. It is currently being stored in large tanks, but those are expected to be full by 2022.Įxactly how the water should be dealt with has become highly controversial in Japan, not least because the nuclear disaster caused extreme contamination off the coast of Fukushima. The contaminated water has since been used to cool the destroyed reactor blocks to prevent further nuclear meltdowns. That's on the recommendation of the government's advisory panel some nine years after the nuclear disaster on Japan's east coast. Almost 1.2 million liters (320,000 gallons) of radioactive water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant is to be released into the ocean. this is often by reducing the e-mail bandwidth, improving the productivity of the staff and also slowing down the speed of growth of the e-mail storage. These palettes can stay open as you continue editing, or you can close them to get them out of the way again. Then you can click on the right to pop up a palette with the current adjustment and effect settings for the selected clip. Similarly, click on Tools to bring up a scrolling menu of options, including the name, icon, and one line explanation to drag and drop onto your production. Then drag and drop to insert the asset or effect, and the pop-up palette closes. Or click on Transitions at the bottom to bring up a scrollable array of transitions, including name, dynamic animation, categories, and search. With this approach, the complexity of editing tools and options are relegated to the periphery of the window, with asset selection at the top left, active adjustments and effects on the right, and the Action Bar menus along the bottom, identified with text and icons.įor example, you click on Project Assets to pop up a visual grid of assets, which is scrollable, and includes viewing options, search, and file management. Instead, the palettes pop up like menus when you click on them, and then stay active so you can scroll and even use tools within them until you click them away. Adobe Elements 12 timeline with color adjustment menuHowever, the timeline interface is still uncluttered, with mostly basic viewing and playback controls, and avoiding a profusion of icons for editing tools, plus multiple window panes and palettes. You can start with quick storyboard-based video editing on a single track, and then move to Expert mode with a full timeline and large array of tools. It also includes a variety of new assets, including 50 auto-fit soundtracks, 250 sound effects, and four new Hollywood film looks. The new Premiere Elements 12 video editing tool integrates with Adobe Revel to provide Mobile Albums, new Guided Edits for step-by-step operations, and intelligent Auto Smart Tone adjustments. You also can share via email or directly to a variety of online sites, from Twitter to Facebook, and Flikr to YouTube. If you don't need to edit, you can export directly from the Organizer to files or disc, print locally, or create a photo book or other keepsake. From the Organizer, you then launch the full Premiere Elements or Photoshop Elements applications to start editing although the Organizer does have some built-in photo fix tools including crop, red eye, and image enhancements. The Organizer also automatically analyzes your media and applies tags for image attributes and quality, including resolution and volume. You can group files by albums, view by media type, people, places, events, and add tags based on keywords, ratings, or other criteria. The Organizer provides tools for browsing and tagging your assets: photos, audio, and videos. Asset management is such an important part of Elements that both applications include a separate organizer application, so that when you launch the software you get the choice of starting up the full application, or first using the Elements Organizer. So what kind of edit style do you have? Do you dive right in and start putting together a rough edit, or are you more methodical, first reviewing and preparing your assets before starting to assemble your production? If you're the organized type, then Elements matches well to your working style, as you build and grow your personal asset collection for the long term. For example, the Guided Edit tutorials available in both applications provide step-by-step instructions for common operations like adding transitions or scores to a movie, including automatically opening the associated menu or dialog, and highlighting the action to be performed with arrows and text. Instead, it continues Adobe's focus for Elements in two areas, organizing assets and refinement of the interface. This release is not a major new overhaul or a wildly new interface. It also continues Adobe's practice of adding fun new technology automation like the one-click Auto Smart Tone that learns your editing preferences for photos and videos. This annual update features cloud integration with the Adobe Revel mobile apps to save your media in online albums to view on mobile apps. The Adobe Elements line of consumer video editing and photo editing tools is into its second decade with the release of Premiere Elements 12 and Photoshop Elements 12. Since then, we have been very happy with pager service and found the next attempt to be met with prompt, polite and professional service worthy of the gratuity. I went ahead and ordered from the counter on my own. I later met who I assumed was him, telling me that he was late to work. The time that we had the hot dogs, we gave up waiting on the server who hadn't answered our page. I can't speak for the other auditoriums at the Bijou.
